The municipal councilors in Burgas voted positively the report submitted by the mayor of the municipality Dimitar Nikolov for signing a cooperation agreement with the Polish city of Gdańsk. This happened at today's regular meeting of the local parliament. The purpose of the document, which is yet to be signed, is to deepen relations and exchange experience in the field of economy, culture and education.
Burgas is already a popular resort destination for residents of the Republic of Poland and in particular the city of Gdańsk. Direct flights between Burgas Airport and Polish destinations contribute to 30 percent of passenger traffic at Burgas Airport, Mayor Nikolov announced during the discussion of the proposal.
The first tourists arrived in Burgas
For several years there has been a direct airline between the two cities, mainly during the summer months. Today it became clear that there are talks about making it a year-round one. On June 12, a Polish delegation with representatives of the Municipality of Gdańsk, the cultural and educational sector in the city, as well as business representatives who wish to establish closer ties with local businesses is expected to visit Burgas.
The city of Gdańsk is an important port on the Baltic Sea and the partnership between the cities would open up new opportunities in the sectors of the blue economy, such as the implementation of joint projects under European cooperation programs, says the report of Mayor Nikolov.
