It is more than obvious that President Rumen Radev does not want Bulgaria to have a regular cabinet. After today's speech at the award of the second term of PP-DB, this became visible to the blind.

"Dear Acad. Denkov, I would like to express my personal respect to you, knowing you as a caretaker minister in several governments. And also to express my full understanding of the delicacy of the situation you are currently in. As President and Supreme Commander-in-Chief, I am directly committed to our security and called upon to defend the Bulgarian state. Here I would like to state that this is precisely why it is inexpedient on my part to give you a mandate and to entrust the fate of Bulgaria in the hands of the leaders of your party after the leaked recordings and subsequent public confessions for the torpedo of Bulgarian sovereignty."

Radev pointed out that his position is due to several things – "the slander and the planned purge in the services and the state administration, the request to interfere with the elections by seizing the Ministry of Interior and discrediting the leaders of European institutions and the name of Bulgaria."

The head of state, however, announced that he was called upon to defend the constitution and therefore he was obliged to serve this exploratory mandate. "Using it is your constitutional right. But in the name of preserving the remnants of normality and trust in the political system, of preserving your dignity and political perspective, and of preserving Bulgaria's image before our European partners, I urge you to completely reconsider the expediency of this mandate, which, in my opinion, has already been discredited," the President added and thus hinted that in his opinion the second term should not be realized.

For the first time, Radev presumes to express the opinion that a mandate should not be fulfilled. This is unprecedented in Bulgarian history. If his request becomes a fact, it would increase his ability to govern the country through his caretaker cabinet.

Radev handed the second term to PP-DB, but urged: Consider whether to implement it, he is already discredited

If the head of state actually followed the basic law of the Republic, he would be aware that his interference was highly unacceptable. The president's work does not expand to the point of ordering and advising political parties on what to do with the exploratory mandate allocated to them by the Bulgarians who voted for them. In any situation, it is highly unacceptable and irresponsible for the president to allow himself such behavior that exceeds his powers.

Ivaylo Mirchev (PP-DB): Radev's interference during the second term is unacceptable

Ivaylo Mirchev from PP-DB reminded the President that his role is to give the mandate, not to comment on what the political forces represented in the Parliament of our parliamentary republic should do with it. "Whether Radev finds the use of the second term expedient or not is an opinion that has no place in the service procedure," he said.

Denkov went to the President with the leaders of the parties from PP-DB - Assen Vasilev (PP), Atanas Atanasov (DSB) and Vladislav Panev ("Green Movement"). There was also Nadezhda Yordanova from "Yes, Bulgaria".

Before last Friday, attitudes were with Denkov to Radev to go and Mariya Gabriel, after PP-DB and GERB had agreed to support a second-term government with rotating prime ministers. Boyko Borissov's party, however, froze talks with PP-DB on Saturday after the leaked recording of a PP meeting, but said it could renew them, insisting on new conditions.
