The delegates to the Municipal Assembly of People's Power of Gibara, constituted as an electoral college, elected this Sunday, through the free, equal, direct and secret vote, the governor and vice governor of Holguín, a day attended as a guest by the member of the Political Bureau and prime minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz.

Deputy Daisy Bárbara López Sao, appointed by the Council of State, presented the candidacy, composed of Manuel Francisco Hernández Aguilera, head of the Department of Return of Assets of the Bucanero S.A. joint venture, for the position of governor, and Yunia Pérez Hernández, current vice governor, to be ratified in her responsibility.

After the counting of the counts carried out in all the Holguin municipalities, the Provincial Electoral Council declared the proposed candidates elected, for having obtained more than half of the valid votes cast. Manuel Francisco Hernández reached 98.94%, while Yunia Pérez received 94.79%.

The voting exercise on Sunday, said the Prime Minister in statements to the press, put an end to a democratic process that began at the end of last year with the election of delegates to the municipal assemblies of People's Power. On this occasion, he said, nine new governors and seven new vice governors were proposed, which is vital for the strengthening of territorial governments.

Those elected, he reported, will take possession of their positions on June 4, and provincial councils, collegiate and deliberative bodies with a very popular composition, will be constituted, which will give way to the consolidation of administrative executive activity.

And in this process, the Head of Government emphasized, it is appropriate to continue with the strengthening of the municipality, that is, to invest it with all the powers attributed to it by the Constitution.

To that end, Marrero Cruz said, we are immersed in the implementation of the new administrative structures in the territories, the completion of management positions and the preparation of all municipal and provincial leaders, so that they can better perform their functions in the midst of the difficult economic situation that the country is going through.

However, he said, we are convinced that things can be done and processes transformed, even with the tightening blockade, even with the international crisis, if we manage to concentrate on seeking our own solutions with creativity and the participation of all.

"Let's not waste a minute explaining the cause of the problems. Let's invest all the time in solving them, "summoned the Head of Government, who also participated this Sunday in the V ordinary session, of the XVIII period of mandate, of the Municipal Assembly of People's Power of Gibara.
