The second round of presidential elections will be held in Turkey today. The close battle for the presidency will be fought between incumbent President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, candidate of the Republican Alliance, and Kemal Kilicdaroglu, candidate of the opposition National Alliance.

In the first round of the presidential election on May 14, less than half a percent fell short of the incumbent head of state to win. To win the election, the candidate had to get 50 percent plus one vote.

More than 64 million Turks are eligible to vote in today's second round of presidential elections at 192,000 polling stations across the country.

There are 3.4 million registered abroad. voters who voted between May 20 and 24.

Polling stations in Turkey open at 8 a.m. and close at 17 p.m. on May 28.

The sale of alcohol is prohibited on election day.

Voter turnout in Turkey is usually high. On May 14, when the first round of presidential elections took place, as well as the parliamentary elections, the overall turnout was 87.04 percent.

Under election rules, news, forecasts and comments on the vote are banned until 18 p.m.

The results of the vote are likely to be announced earlier than on May 14.
