New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new Parliament building on Sunday. As many as 21 opposition parties, including the Congress, boycotted the inaugural ceremony. BJP leader and former Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan also attended the inauguration ceremony of the new Parliament building. In an exclusive interview to NDTV, Mahajan questioned the opposition party's non-participation in the event. He said people in the opposition must be regretting seeing the picture of the ceremony on TV. This moment was a proud moment.

Former Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan told NDTV, "The need for a new Parliament building was also the demand of all. There was less space to sit. MPs had to sit behind pillars. This demand was not of any one party. MPs had a lot of problems in sitting. When I was the Speaker, there was a discussion about the new building. I don't think anyone should have protested. I don't know where this controversy started and why such politics is happening. Parliament is the temple of democracy. The whole country operates from here. We sit for discussion in Parliament. There should not be such politics."

"People regret watching it on TV..."
Sumitra Mahajan said, "I myself attended the inauguration ceremony of the new Parliament building. My wish was that a new Parliament building should be built. We had already finalized this place and such a big building has been built in such a short time. This new Parliament building is equipped with technology. The ceremony was very dignified. After 75 years of independence, a historic thing has come to the fore. Seeing the ceremony on TV, people must have regretted it. People in the opposition have missed the historic moment."

"It is not right to question Savarkar..."
Former Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan told NDTV, "All people have their own right. My point is that our Constitution is very good. If the leader of the House is doing some work, then why is there opposition? Why is there talk of caste? The young generation of the country is understanding the point. What are the things being opposed about? Sit in Parliament and discuss. Decisions are taken for the country from here. Everyone has the right to speak in Parliament. Now you can join the Parliament library as soon as you press the button. Come and see once. I have read Savarkar. Savarkar ji fought for the country. It is not appropriate to question these things. We should respect it."

"It gives a message of India's determination to the world"
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new Parliament building today. In his first address at the new building, the PM said it is a reflection of the aspirations and dreams of 140 crore Indian citizens. It gives a message of India's determination to the world. The Prime Minister said that some moments of the country's development journey become immortal and today is one such day.
