Before the start of today's meeting, Vucic said that the first item on the agenda will be the consideration of the current political situation and the second item is the election of a new party chairman. Vucic, who recalled that he succeeded the post of SPS chairman from former Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic, proposed as his successor current Defence Minister Milos Vučević, whom he described as a man loyal to the party but also committed to the idea of an independent and prosperous Serbia. "I know he's been with us since the beginning. I'm sure he knows the party better than anything else. I know how much he loves the Serbian Progressive Party," Vucic said during his speech at the party meeting.

"Thank you for these 11 years. I am the proudest person in the world since I headed the Serbian Progressive Party," Vucic, who has led the party since 2012, said to the applause.
