Bhopal:

A woman was kicked by a policeman while removing an encroachment in Tilsiwa village of Surajpur in Chhattisgarh. The video of this incident is going viral. The woman was also dragged by holding her hair. The administration says that more than 18 people had illegally occupied the land of Gauthan in Tilsiwa village. Despite issuing notices to them, they did not remove the possession. When the administration team arrived to remove them, a dispute started.

People allege that a pregnant woman has also been beaten up. On the other hand, the police say that the encroachers had earlier attacked the tehsildar, due to which a case has been registered against eight women. He has been arrested and sent to jail in judicial remand.

In the video of the incident, a policeman is seen pulling the hair of a woman who fell to the ground and kicking her. Several other police personnel are also standing nearby. A policeman is seen dragging another woman to take her to a police van.

Surajpur Additional Superintendent of Police Madhulika Sharma said, "The revenue officer was attacked by some locals during an anti-encroachment drive. We are investigating the matter."

The administration has alleged that 18 people have occupied the land which is meant for cattle enclosures. However, locals said they have been living there for years.

"We have been living here for years. She also alleged that a pregnant woman was also assaulted by the police.

The video of the incident has gone viral. However, the authorities have not yet commented on the use of force by the police personnel on the women. Police have said that the women attacked local revenue officials during the operation, so a case has been registered against them.
