The Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, located in the Russian-occupied part of southern Ukraine, is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, and its area has repeatedly come under fire that the two sides blamed on each other.

The Ukrainian Defense Ministry's Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) said Russian forces would soon bombard the plant and then announce a radiation leak. This would trigger an international investigation during which all hostilities would be suspended.

The GUR message, which was posted on the social network Telegram, did not provide any evidence. It added that Russia had prevented the planned rotation of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors stationed at the plant.

The IAEA, which frequently publishes briefs on the situation surrounding the plant, has made no mention of the matter.

Last week, witnesses said Russian forces were strengthening their defensive positions in and around the plant in anticipation of the counter-offensive.

In February, Russia said Ukraine intended to stage a nuclear incident on its territory to blame on Moscow.

Russia has repeatedly accused Kiev of preparing "false flag" operations with unconventional weapons using biological and radioactive materials. There has never been such an attack before.
