Mexican security forces have found 175 migrants locked in the container of a truck that was circulating in the municipality of Chiapa de Corzo, in the state of Chiapas, the National Institute of Migration (INM) reported.

The rescue occurred on Thursday night, after INM agents asked the driver to stop the truck. The truck driver refused to open the container door, but the faces of the migrants were visible through vents.

Inside were adult women and men, as well as 28 unaccompanied minors. The migrants, who come from different Latin American countries, except one who was from Pakistan, intended to reach the border with the United States.

The minors were placed under the guardianship of the INM System for the Integral Development of the Family, which, at the same time, initiated procedures to determine the migratory status of adults. Meanwhile, the driver of the truck was placed at the disposal of the corresponding authorities.
