Cuba's U21 women's team beat Costa Rica 3-0 in the quarterfinals and advanced to today's semifinal of the North, Central America and Caribbean Pan American Volleyball Cup, which will conclude this Sunday in Nogales, Mexico.

According to the site www.norceca.net, the disciples of Wilfredo Robinson defeated the Costa Ricans in three hard-fought sets of 25-20, 29-27 and 31-29 after an hour and 23 minutes of action on the court.

The official statistics of the match reflect the best performance of the largest of the Antilles in the attack, 48 by 38 points, and the own errors (20-27), while Costa Rica stood out in the blocking (12-8) and the service 6-2).

Individually, Angélica Rodríguez stood out, top scorer of the challenge with 17 goals, 15 in the attack and two in the block, followed by the Cubans Thainalien Castillo Leyva (14/11-2-1), Witney James (14/13-0-1) and Yensy Kindelan (12/10-2-0).

The other Costa Rican player with double digits in the match was Nhya Raldisha (10/7-3-0).

The Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico meet in the other semifinal match, a stage in which the undefeated United States and Mexico wait for the winners to meet the winners today, in search of the discussion of the gold and bronze medals this Sunday.
