Former Mexican ballerina Ruth Lujan reduced her waist to 11.8 inches (29.9 cm) without surgery.

A 26-year-old woman at age 19 was diagnosed with hyperlaxia syndrome, a rare condition in which the ligaments supporting the joints are more stretched.

Her ballet teacher was the first to notice that something was wrong with her movements and advised her to consult a doctor. After her initial shock at being diagnosed with hyperrelaxation, she went through a peculiar grieving process.

"I felt so sad," Ruth said. Because this state will never allow me to wear pointe shoes again."

However, her new look is far from just a viral fashion quirk that has garnered millions of views on various social media platforms.

Luzhan's doctors first suggested that she wear corsets to protect her muscles and ligaments and avoid painful symptoms such as fatigue and stiffness with clicks in her joints.

Following the doctor's instructions, she began wearing corsets under casual clothes. She hesitated at first, but then she began to like the hourglass look it gave her.

"The practice gave me more confidence and self-love. I feel able to shape my body the way I want to, and I'm proud of how I look," she admitted.

As a result, Ruth managed to narrow her waist to 29 cm. It is reported that wearing tightly laced corsets also helped the 24-year-old improve her posture.
