The government has instructed council directors not to approve the transfer requests submitted by new staff assigned to their work centres in different parts of the country.

Deogratius Ndejembi, Deputy Minister of the President's Office (Regional and Local Government-TAMISEMI) issued the order in Parliament in Dodoma today and said the worker should stay at the assigned job centre for at least three years once they have been employed.

"When a worker is assigned to their work station he should not move especially during the probation period [expectation]. I am directing the directors not to approve the application to move under that timeframe," Ndejembi said.

Ndejembi made the order during a Q&A session after lawmakers from Lindi Salma Kikwete (Mchinga) and Zuber Kuchauka (Liwale) called on the government to outline a strategy to control health workers assigned to councils but leave the areas in a shortage.

However, the Deputy Minister stressed that those who have recently announced jobs will be controlled through the strategy as well.

In his primary question, Special Forces MP Minza Jijika wanted to know when the government would add health workers to the Meatu district hospital.

In response to the question, Ndejembi said the government has continued to hire health workers.
In the 2021/22 financial year, a total of 7,736 health workers were employed while the Meatu district council was assigned 104 staff.

"Mr. Speaker, in the 2022/23 financial year, the Government will employ 8,070 health care workers. In addition, after the employment procedures are completed the workers will be organized in all councils in the country including
the Meatu Council," he concluded his response.
