The postponement of the rotation of the prime minister post is another proof of the failure of this government, said the chairman of the opposition party "Union for the Salvation of Romania" Catalin Drula (pictured), quoted by Ađepres.

"I listened with astonishment to the statements of [Prime Minister Nicolae] Chuka and (Social Democrat leader Marcel) Cholaku. They are leaders completely detached from reality. Five months talk only about this rotation, who gets what ministry, what is the political future of Mr Chuka. The PSD-PNL government is a government of failure," Drulla said.

He commented that on the day the rotation was supposed to take place, the first general strike in education in 18 years happened and teachers were on the streets, schools were closed and children were at home.

Romania's rotation of prime minister postponed

Drula renewed a call for Nicolae Ciuca and Marcel Colacu to vote Monday in parliament on an increase in teachers' salaries and the abolition of special pensions, "if they really care about people's problems and not about political negotiations."

We have the laws, we have the votes, if Chuka and Colaku want to do things right, on Monday we can solve this crisis so that children can return to classes, Catalin Drula concluded.

Early this morning, Prime Minister Nicolae Chuka announced that he would not resign until the problem of teachers' salaries was resolved. Since May 22, teachers in Romania have been on general strike. They are demanding a salary increase. Yesterday in Bucharest there was another mass protest of teachers. A new demonstration is scheduled for May 30.

Thousands of teachers protest in Bucharest; Protesters refused to end the general strike.

The exchange of prime minister was agreed between the Liberals and the Social Democrats in the autumn of 2021, when the two parties agreed to govern together. Under the agreement, Nicolae Ciuca is to be replaced by Social Democrat Marcel Colacu, president of the Chamber of Deputies and the Social Democratic Party.
