Dutch prosecutors have seized a plot of land of 1432 square meters near Amsterdam belonging to the former son-in-law of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The edition writes about it The Guardian.

It is reported that the land in Duivendrecht belongs to Jorrit Faassen, a Dutch businessman who was married to Maria Vorontsova, the eldest daughter of the head of the Kremlin. An entry in the Dutch land register indicates that the plot was confiscated for financial, economic and environmental offenses.

According to Helin Over de Linden, a lawyer and sanctions expert, the confiscation indicates that Faassen is likely to be investigated, although the exact reason for the confiscation cannot be established from publicly available documents. Dutch prosecutors have not commented on the reason for the confiscation.

Faassen, who lives in Moscow, was interrogated at Dutch Schiphol Airport. It is assumed that he violated the sanctions imposed. His laptop and mobile phone were confiscated. Fassen has reportedly returned to Moscow.

The article says that Faassen married Vorontsova in 2008, but then the couple divorced. The plot of land near Amsterdam and its connection with Faassen is well known to the public.

Although the site is currently empty, in 2021 Faassen's registered owner applied for permission to build a house and six small office buildings on the land.

Putin's daughters, Maria Tikhonova and Ekaterina Vorontsova, have been under sanctions by the European Union and the United States since April last year over Russia's war against Ukraine. Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said at the time that the Kremlin would definitely respond to sanctions against Putin's daughters and "do it as it sees fit."

Earlier we wrote that Vladimir Putin's youngest daughter, Ekaterina Tikhonova, has long been predicted to play a big political role. There are rumors that Kateryna may become one of the main contenders for the presidency in the Russian Federation.
