In a day passed by water, the Mayabequenses Hurricanes beat the island 4-0 on Thursday and remained alone at the top of the 62nd National Baseball Series, which today will drop the curtains of its eleventh particular subseries.

Of the eight scheduled matches, only five could be played. And visiting the Nueva Gerona stadium, mentor Michael Gonzalez's Hurricanes had a jewel from star right-hander Marlon Vega, who threw a complete game at the rate of eight strikeouts and just three hits, without conceding a ticket to sign his fourth victory without the shadow of the backhand.

At bat, Yasniel González hit a 2-2 pitch and drove in a run for Mayabeque, which showed offensive unproductivity by leaving 11 runners on base, as they failed to take advantage of nine jits and 11 bases on balls.

The Hurricanes thus reach a level of 31-21 and maintain a half-game advantage over the national runner-up Matanzas (31-22), which today signed the fourth successive victory against Cienfuegos away at the 5 de Septiembre park, where they were successful 7-3.

Sixth smile of left-hander Naykel Cruz, who in 6.1 innings allowed just two singles and six strikeouts; but conceded four tickets. Second save by speedy right-hander Armando Dueñas. Outfielder Jose Prens and infielders Anibal Medina and Moises Esquerres each drove in two runs.

In other results, Camagüey beat Industriales 7-4, Sancti Spíritus 12-6 to Ciego de Ávila and Villa Clara 11-3 to Holguín. The Azucareros manufactured a nine-run rally in the fifth, with a bases-loaded home run by Victor Boch.
