With the occurrence of rains that approach 20 hours almost uninterrupted until noon today, the locals are surprised with this change of weather in Las Tunas, the province where it rains the least in Cuba, with an average of one thousand 38 millimeters (mm) per year.
May has behaved quite wet in the eight municipalities of the territory, but the persistent rains from the early hours of Thursday night until the current day has been the longest stage so far this year.
According to the provincial delegation of the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources, rainfall has spread throughout the Tuna territory, but the most benefited locations have been those located in the south, especially in Guayabal and San Alberto, municipality of Amancio, where more than 100 mm were recorded, as well as in Sabalo, Jobabo, (90 mm).
The 25 mm reported in El Rincón, where the dam of the same name is located, which has a filling capacity of 20 million cubic meters and is the largest source of water supply to Las Tunas, a city that exceeds 160 thousand inhabitants, are significant.
Some water mirrors have increased their flow more than others, but in general all have benefited and therefore the province increases the storage of the essential liquid, because until last Thursday only 23 percent of the total capacity was registered.
Due to the impossibility of supplying water to all communities through the aqueduct network, the province guarantees this resource to more than 100,<> people through the use of pipes.
