This is how the last debate before elections in the State of Mexico was lived 2:40

(CNN Spanish) -- On Sunday, June 4, local elections will be held in the Mexican states of Coahuila (in the north of the country) and State of Mexico (in the center).

There are millions of citizens of both states who are called to vote this June 4:

  • In the State of Mexico, 12,676,625 citizens are eligible to vote in elections that will vote for a new governor, according to the National Institute of Statistics, INE.
  • In Coahuila, there are 2,355,025 people who are eligible for the elections where they will vote for a new governor and for 25 local councils.

The two candidates for governor in the State of Mexico are Delfina Gómez (from the common candidacy between the Morena, PT and PVEM parties) and Alejandra del Moral (from the 'Va por el Estado de México' coalition between the PAN, PRI, PRD and Nueva Alianza Estado de México parties).

What do they look like and how to mark the ballots?

State of Mexico

In the case of the elections in the State of Mexico, the ballot will have four boxes with the full name of Alejandra del Moral and her nickname ("Ale del Moral"), and a box for Delfina Gómez.

Del Moral has four boxes for reasons established in the electoral laws: when it comes to a coalition, the ballot has to include the symbol of all the parties that compose it and the name of the candidate in each case, according to the Electoral Institute of the State of Mexico (IEEM).

In the case of a common candidacy, such as that of Delfina Gómez, the electoral laws indicate that the ballot can only include a box with the symbol of all the parties that constitute said candidacy in common.

It is for them that Del Moral has four boxes (four parties that make up his coalition) and Gómez only one (with the symbol of three political parties that constitute his candidacy in common).

Coahuila

In the case of the election for governor in Coahuila, it works in the same way as that of the State of Mexico, since we will find three boxes of Jiménez Salinas (for his coalition of three parties), two of Pérez Rivera (for his coalition of two parties) and only one each of Guadiana Tijerina and Mejía Berdeja (for going with single parties).

The ballot of the local councils can be distinguished because it has a different color from that of the governorship:

How do I mark the ballot?

There are multiple ways to mark the ballot for elections. The most common is to mark with an "X" the box of the candidate of your preference.

However, you can also:

  • Mark the box with a popcorn
  • Enclose it with a circle or other shape
  • Opt for a popcorn instead of an X
  • Cross out the boxes of the candidates you do not want and put a popcorn that you do want to choose from
  • A doodle in your preferred candidate's box
  • A happy face or figure inside a box
  • Words inside the box

Here you can review all the options you have to make your vote valid. Meanwhile, we leave you some examples:

When it comes to a coalition, you can check one or all of the boxes for the parties in that alliance. Either way, it will only count as one vote for the coalition candidate.

Remember that the election day of June 4 will be held from 8 am to 6 pm (local time).
