Although the life span of the Azerbaijani People's Republic was not very long, great work was done during this period, institutions such as Azerbaijan's first Parliament, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Protection were established, and the foundation of our national army was laid.

According to the EPA's Turkish correspondent, Nermin Mustafayeva, the Chief Consul of Azerbaijan in Istanbul, reported on this during an official reception dedicated to Azerbaijan's "28 May - Independence Day" and organized by the Chief Consulate.

He noted that today Azerbaijan celebrates Independence Day as a country that restores territorial integrity.

"In 1991, azerbaijan, like other republics, gained independence for the second time. But we were a young state, there were obstacles to it pursuing its own independent policies. At that time, Azerbaijan was forced to wage war on economic problems, the threat of internal conflicts, and, most importantly, our neighbor Armenia, for our historic land. At that time, Azerbaijan again gained national will and invited our great leader, Heydər Əliyev, who had served our country during the Soviet era and who always put his people and government ahead of all else. After being elected president in 1993, the foundations of present-day independent Azerbaijan were laid because of Heydər Əliyev's policy. We are citizens of independent and strong Azerbaijan as a result of those policies," N. Mustafayeva said.

The chief consul also reminded us that Turkey was the first country to recognize Azerbaijan's independence: "Thank you for this brotherhood and friendship that has stood for centuries and has returned to the program."
