Xia Baolong, Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, continued his second day of inspection in Macao today (24 December). At a symposium with key officials of the SAR Government at the Government Headquarters in the morning, he pointed out that after the impact of the epidemic, promoting the moderate diversification of Macao's economy is not a choice question, but a must-do question. The HKSAR Government and all sectors of Macao must unify their thinking, strengthen their confidence and overcome all difficulties to achieve moderate diversification of Macao's economy.


The Macao Information Bureau issued a press release in the evening, saying that Xia Baolong conveyed President Xi Jinping's concern and expectations at the meeting, and listened to the work report of the SAR Government and the introduction of the overall development of Macao. He pointed out that Xi Jinping is always concerned about Macao society and future development, and has repeatedly clearly indicated that Macao must further promote moderate economic diversification. After experiencing the impact of the epidemic, promoting the moderate diversification of Macao's economy is not a choice question, but a must-do question. The HKSAR Government and all sectors of Macao must unify their thinking, strengthen their confidence and overcome all difficulties to achieve moderate diversification of Macao's economy.

Chief Executive Ho Iat Sung said that the HKSAR Government will go all out to actively do relevant work in accordance with the expectations put forward by President Xi. In order to optimize its industrial structure, Macao is actively adopting the "1+4" moderate diversification development strategy, as well as the work arrangements for the construction of the Co-operation Zone to help Macao develop moderately diversified. He Yicheng also said that Xia Baolong also expressed the central government's full affirmation of the work, governance ability and governance level of the SAR government and governance team at the meeting. He particularly stressed that it is necessary to uphold the unity between the overall jurisdiction of the central authorities and the guarantee of a high degree of autonomy of the SAR, and the principle of "Patriots Administering Macao" must be persistently implemented.

Later, accompanied by Ho Yi-shing and Legislative Council Chairman Ko Kai-yin, Ha Po Loong visited the Legislative Council Building to learn more about the legislative affairs of the HKSAR and exchanged views with all Legislative Members.

At noon, Xia Baolong and Ho Yicheng visited the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM) to observe the teaching demonstration and learn about Macao's cultivation of tourism talents.

In the afternoon, Ha Po Loong met with representatives of Macao's disciplined forces at the Government Headquarters and the Secretary for Security, Wong Siu-tak, briefed him on the current situation of law and order in Macao and the work of the disciplined forces.

Then, accompanied by Ho Yicheng, Xia Po Long visited the Court of Final Appeal, where he listened to briefings by President of the Court of Final Appeal, Mr Shum Ho-fai, and Procurator General Ip Hun-sang, on the operation of the Macao judiciary, and exchanged views with judges and prosecutors at all levels.
