Perhaps you have watery eyes when you clean the house or itchy skin in the evening during dinner? Most likely, these are signs of allergies. There are a lot of people suffering from allergies. In the United States alone, more than 50 million adults and children react to pollen, dust, mold, pet dander, and other allergens.

What is allergy, why do allergic reactions occur

Allergy is a reaction of the body to some allergen. This is how your immune system responds to defend itself against germs and viruses. But sometimes the body confuses and reacts to other foreign particles in the same way as pathogens.

"Most people do not have an immune response to pollen, but a certain percentage of people's immune system perceives it as foreign and dangerous, as a pathogen or infection," says doctor, allergist and immunologist Christina Price.

When the immune system decides that something can harm the body, even if it is wrong, it gives an answer. In trying to protect you, your body accidentally causes damage. This response can cause a variety of symptoms, such as shortness of breath, hives, sneezing, and itching.

Experts told what could be the symptoms of allergy to a variety of allergens.

Symptoms of seasonal allergies

Seasonal allergies, or allergic rhinitis, occur only at certain times of the year (summer, autumn, winter or spring). The most common seasonal allergens are grass pollen, tree pollen, mold and ragweed.
