Georgia's application of economic sanctions on Russia could lead to the destruction of its own economy.

The EPA's Tbilisi correspondent reports that Georgian Prime Minister Iraqi Karibashvili said this at the Qatar Economic Forum.

"We were at war in 2008. Do you remember someone imposing sanctions on Russia for war with us? No one. No one in the world reacted appropriately to that war. So my question is, Where is the logic? Our war is not a war, but is the war of Ukraine a war?" the Prime Minister said in response to a moderator's question.

Karibashvili added that after 2008, Russia occupied 20 percent of Georgia's territory, established 2 military bases in its historic lands, and recognized the independence of separatist "republics." Nevertheless, the West has continued its business relations with Russia as always:

"This invasion continues. My question to our American and European friends is - dear friends, you have continued the business with Russia as ever. No one has imposed sanctions on Russia. Let me tell you that the ECB paid Russia $2008.2022 trillion from 2 to 5. Georgia's foreign trade cycle with Russia is less than $1 billion. By comparison, we do Europe's four-day trade with Russia in 4 year. $1 billion cannot affect the Russian economy. It's 1.0 percent for him, so there's no logic behind our sanctions on Russia."

The prime minister has pointed out that the Georgian government supports Ukraine and Ukrainians and wants the war to end soon:

'We support Ukraine, the Ukrainians and we want this war to end soon. We have joined more than 500 resolutions, statements on each international platform. We have fully complied with financial sanctions, and the U.S. State Department has officially declared that Georgia's financial institutions, the National Bank, are fully complied with financial sanctions."
