On Wednesday, May 17, the last ship is due to leave the port under an agreement that allows the safe export of Ukrainian grain to the Black Sea.
This was stated by the representative of the UN, reports Reuters.
The UN reported this a day before Russia threatened to withdraw from the agreement because of alleged obstacles to it.
It is noted that in November Moscow agreed to extend the "grain deal" for another 120 days
, but then in March she agreed to a 60-day extension – until May 18. Russia demands to fulfill the list of requirements for its own export of agricultural products.
To persuade Moscow to allow Black Sea grain exports in July, the United Nations agreed to help Russia with its own cargoes of agricultural products for three years.
While Russian food and fertilizer exports are not subject to Western sanctions imposed after the Ukraine invasion in February 2022, Moscow says restrictions on payments, logistics and insurance pose an obstacle to supplies.
Turkey believes that
The agreement can be extended for at least another two months.
What Russia demands:
- reconnection of the "Agricultural Bank" to the SWIFT system,
- resumption of supplies of agricultural machinery, spare parts and service,
- lifting restrictions on insurance and reinsurance,
- lifting the ban on access to ports,
- resumption of operation of the ammonia pipeline "Togliatti-Odesa",
- unlocking foreign assets and accounts of Russian companies related to the production and transportation of food and fertilizers.
Recall that on May 10, negotiations began in Istanbul on the continuation of the work of the so-called "grain corridor". The meeting was attended by Deputy Ministers of Defense of Turkey, Russia, Ukraine and UN representatives.
