American Dorothy Fideli from Ohio became engaged to herself at an unusual wedding that took place in a nursing home.

It is reported by WLWT.

The 77-year-old held a ceremony on May 13 to fulfill her long-held dream of a long and happy life.

"That's what I've always wanted. I wanted to get married and live a happy life, but everything went wrong, and now I have a second chance to do something that will make me happy," the woman shared.

The mother of three says she heard about a woman taking herself on a talk show and thought it was a good idea as it would cheer up other residents of the O'Bannon Terrace nursing home in Goshen, Ohio.

Deciding to arrange a wedding, she had to plan her special day, which included decorations, meals, and an official who turned out to be the head of the nursing home, Rob Geiger.

Geiger wasn't the only one supporting the wedding: Fideli's daughter helped her mother plan a big day by buying a dress, delivering flowers and preparing food for guests.

"She said, 'Oh, Mom, yes, let's do it. I'll go get your dress, I'll bring you everything," Fideli said of her daughter Donna Pennington.

The bride was dressed in a white dress with sheer long sleeves adorned with floral details, a silver belt and an adorned veil with a headband, holding white lilies in her hands, which Fideli called a metaphor for cultivating self-love.

On this day, one of the rooms of the house was decorated with an arch of balloons, a bunk white cake, heart-shaped cookies and sandwiches in the form of wedding bells.

Fidela, like any wedding day bride, was excited and a little tense.

"I was nervous, but then I was very happy," she said.

Fideli's marriage on Saturday was not her first. She married in 1965, but divorced nine years later.

Fideli said she and her ex-husband exchanged vows in front of a judge before he returned to work.

The woman, who will soon become a great-grandmother, said that now that her children have grown up and her grandchildren are graduating from college, she has focused on improving her life.

The bride learned to read after not knowing how to do it for the first 75 years of her life.

"It's the best I've ever had besides you kids," Fideli told her daughter. "This is what I've always wanted and I'm so happy you gave it to me."

Recall that the man on the first date ordered a bunch of food in a restaurant and ran away with goodies. His companion surprised what happened next.
