On the night of May 16, the Russian army struck Kyiv. The air raid alarm sounded from 02:25 until the morning. Residents of the capital and suburbs heard dozens of powerful explosions. The enemy fired 18 missiles and 9 UAVs — all targets were destroyed by Ukrainian air defense. However, due to falling debris, there is damage in several areas of the capital.

This is the eighth air attack on Kyiv since early May. This time, the Russian Federation launched a comprehensive strike simultaneously from different directions, using drones, cruise and ballistic missiles. The attack was exceptional in its density — the maximum number of missiles in the shortest period of time, the CMVA said.

How Russia hit Kyiv

Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valerii Zaluzhnyi said that around 03:30 the Russian army attacked Ukraine from the northern, southern and eastern directions with 18 missiles of various types of air, sea and land-based. Of the six MiG-31K aircraft, the Russian Federation fired six Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles, 9 Kalibr cruise missiles — from ships in the Black Sea and three land-based missiles (S-400, Iskander-M). All 18 missiles were destroyed by air defense.

In addition, the occupiers attacked with strike drones of the "Shahed-136/131" type, and also conducted aerial reconnaissance with three operational-tactical UAVs - "Orlan-10", "SuperCum". All 9 UAVs were also destroyed by Ukrainian air defenses.

Consequences of the night attack

Debris from enemy missiles and drones fell in Solomenskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, Obolonskyi and Darnytskyi districts of Kyiv. The greatest damage is in the Solomensky district. There was a fire in a non-residential premises, several cars caught fire. The fire was extinguished. In other areas, the damage is minor: debris fell on parked cars, adjacent territory or forest park area. There is no information about the victims at this time.

As a result of the Russian attack, the capital's zoo was also damaged. Debris of a rocket fell on its territory, they damaged green spaces. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that none of the animals and workers were injured. Anti-stress measures are carried out with animals. Today, as usual, at 10:00 the zoo will open to visitors.

Recall that during the night attack of the Russian Federation on the Kyiv, many bloggers posted photos and videos of missile flights and air defense work on the Web. Users were outraged and called on the Ukrainian special services to punish those who help the enemy.

A special resonance was caused by the video of the ex-wife of convict Yuri Chernetsky Inna Voronova. The video that she posted on Instagram shows the work of air defense. The number of subscribers of the blogger reaches 117 thousand. In total, there were about 50 people on social networks who, despite warnings, posted similar shots.
