(CNN Spanish) -- One person died and another was seriously injured on Sunday in a shopping center in the Colombian capital in what – for the moment – is believed to be an attack by a person against his partner, according to the mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López Hernández, on Twitter.

According to the official, a man entered Unicentro – located northeast of the city – and after arguing with the woman, who worked in a local, "shot her" and then tried to take his own life.

Lopez said that the subject "shot himself after committing the femicide, but managed to be transferred to a hospital although his condition is very delicate."

The mayor added about the aggressor that "he worked in a security company and presumably that's why he was armed."

Lopez Hernandez said police "have the place under control and are conducting the investigation."

CNN is trying to get more details of the incident with police, who as of Sunday night had not spoken publicly.

The incident caused alarm on social networks, especially because the mall is visited by dozens of people during the weekends and, above all, because this Sunday is Mother's Day in Colombia.
