The head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, wrote in a letter to the foreign ministers of the EU countries that China could gain a geopolitical advantage from Russia's defeat in the war against Ukraine.

It is reported by the Financial Times.

Borrell appealed to EU countries on a strategy for interaction with China due to Beijing's growing influence in the world.

"China's ambitions are clearly aimed at building a new world order with China at the center. Russia's defeat in Ukraine will not derail China's trajectory. China will be able to gain a geopolitical advantage from this," the letter of the head of European diplomacy said.

Borrell also notes that many countries view China as a counterweight to the West and, in particular, Europe. Most states have been reluctant to support sanctions against Russia for its invasion of Ukraine. So China seized the opportunity and showed itself as a "non-aggressive state". The point is that Beijing does not start a war and does not put pressure on others to impose sanctions "against rivals."

The head of European diplomacy urged in the letter of the EU countries to find a strategy of interaction with China, which would correspond to the growth of nationalism of this country and the strengthening of its competition with the United States.

The publication notes that the European Union will focus on changing the current strategy towards China, where it is considered as a "partner, competitor, rival."

Borrell in the letter also points out that the EU should not seek to "block the growing role of developing countries." He says he is ready for "serious engagement" with China over the war in Ukraine, despite its rhetorical support for Russia.

China and Russia's war against Ukraine

The day before, Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang said that his country does not intend to benefit from Russia's war against Ukraine and hopes for further discussions of Beijing's proposed peace plan.

In addition, during his visit to Germany, Qin Gang warned against an "emotional" view of the war in Ukraine and called for "keeping calm and rational, and creating conditions for a political solution."
