On May 8, 2023, Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov co-chaired the 7th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Bilateral Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Lithuania within the framework of his official visit to the Republic of Lithuania.
According to the information given to APA by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting of the Commission was co-chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Gabrielius Landsbergis.
Delivering the opening speech at the meeting, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized the existence of partnership between the two countries based on mutual interests, fundamental norms and principles of international law.
It was pointed out that high-level visits and regular meetings contribute to the development of relations.
In his speech, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov informed about the efforts carried out by our country in the direction of the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the areas affected by the conflict, as well as the reintegration of the population in the post-conflict period.
Lithuanian companies and investors were invited to participate in projects in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan.
During the speech, it was also emphasized that the massive pollution of conflict-affected areas with mines and explosives is the main obstacle to recovery and reconstruction activities, as well as ensuring the safe return of IDPs to their homes, and expressed hope for the cooperation of the Lithuanian side in the fight against the mine threat.
The speech mentioned the existence of wide opportunities for mutually beneficial partnership in various other fields, including trade and investment, energy security and energy transition, connectivity and information technology, agribusiness, education and cultural exchange.
Confidence was expressed that the emerging transport hub and Zangezur corridor in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan will play a positive role for regional peace and stability and will boost intra-regional trade.
In his speech, the minister spoke about the energy dialogue of our country with the EU, saying that the green electricity network is an important part of our energy dialogue with the EU, and mentioned the projects implemented in this direction.
He emphasized that there are wide opportunities for cooperation with Lithuanian companies in projects of transition to renewable energy in Azerbaijan.
Delivering a closing speech at the end of the meeting, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized the importance of the meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission as a regular institutional dialogue mechanism to guide and promote the road map for the two countries, expressing confidence that the interested parties from both countries will continue the dialogue and relations in the value-added areas of the bilateral route. did.
During the meeting of the Commission, the officials of the relevant institutions of Azerbaijan and Lithuania spoke, bilateral meetings between the institutions were held, and at the end of the event, the Protocol of the 7th meeting of the Commission was signed.
