Gary Prado, the retired Bolivian general who led the operation to capture revolutionary Ernesto Che Guevara, has died at the age of 85.

APAn informs that "El Deber" newspaper published information about this on Sunday.

Prado's death was confirmed by his son.

According to the newspaper, the retired general has kidney problems.

Che Guevara, a close friend of Fidel Castro and one of the leaders of the 1959 Cuban Revolution, was captured and executed in Bolivia in 1967, where he tried to organize a guerrilla movement.

For the capture of the revolutionary and his fight against the guerrillas, the Bolivian Parliament awarded Prado with the title of national hero that year.
