The Vice President of the Republic, Salvador Valdés Mesa, arrived in London this Friday at the head of the Cuban delegation that will attend the coronation ceremony of His Majesty Carlos III, set for this Saturday, May 6 at Westminster Abbey.

During his stay in the United Kingdom, the Cuban vice president will attend the activities organized by the British Royal Household and Foreign Ministry, reported the Island's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Valdés Mesa chairs a delegation that also includes Ángel Villa Hernández, acting general director of Bilateral Affairs at the Minrex, and Bárbara Elena Montalvo Álvarez, Cuban ambassador to the European nation.

The last coronation that took place in the United Kingdom was that of Elizabeth II, mother of Carlos, 70 years ago, which lasted three hours.

The ceremony scheduled for this Saturday is expected to last 90 minutes and some 2,000 people will attend, including a hundred heads of state and other official representatives, members of the British government and guests from other royal houses, according to the BBC.

At the coronation of Carlos III, his wife, Camila, will receive the crown as queen consort.

Carlos III, whose accession to the throne was made official in a ceremony held at St. James's Palace, in London, in September 2022, visited Havana in March 2019, then as prince, together with Camila, Duchess of Cornwall.

During the first visit by a member of the English royal family to the Caribbean island, they were received by President Miguel Díaz-Canel, and they toured different places of economic, scientific and social interest, including the Mariel Special Development Zone , the Historic Center of Havana and the Center for Molecular Immunology (CIM).
