Belgian police have arrested an Iraqi national suspected of involvement in a series of bombings in Baghdad in which he was implicated as an al-Qaeda activist, a Belgian federal prosecutor said today, quoted by Reuters.

The Iraqi, who has lived in Belgium since 2015, is suspected of being partly responsible for several bombings in Baghdad's Green Zone in 2009 and 2010 that killed at least 376 and wounded 2,300.

The attacks on several government and other buildings were carried out with car bombs, the statement said.

Suspected terrorists who were preparing an attack were detained in Belgium

The suspect, who was born in 1979, was detained on Wednesday.

He is accused of several murders committed on terrorist grounds, participation in the activities of a terrorist organization, war crimes and crimes against humanity, writes BTA.

A judge will decide today whether to keep him in custody.
