New Delhi:

Pakistan's Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is also going to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting.

Before leaving for the SCO meeting being held in Goa, Bilawal said that his decision to attend the summit underlines Pakistan's commitment to the SCO charter.

Bilawal tweeted a video message this morning.

He tweeted- "Will lead the Pakistan delegation to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Goa. My decision to attend this meeting reflects Pakistan's strong commitment to the Charter of the SCO. During the visit, which specifically focuses on the SCO "I look forward to constructive discussions with my counterparts from friendly countries. This shows Pakistan's strong commitment to the SCO."

The 34-year-old Bilawal is the first Pakistani foreign minister to visit India since 2011. India is chairing the SCO this time and had invited its members for the Goa meeting in January.

SCO is a Eurasian political, economic and security alliance consisting of eight member states – India, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

India and Pakistan joined the organization as full members in 2017.

According to sources, a formal meeting between External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Bilawal is unlikely to take place during the two-day Goa summit.

Jaishankar had recently indirectly criticized the neighboring country during a media interaction in Panama City.

He had said that "It is very difficult for us to engage with a neighbor who promotes cross-border terrorism against us. We have always said that they have to fulfill their commitment not to encourage and sponsor cross-border terrorism." Hopefully one day we will reach that point."
