Oleksandr Merezhko, head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation, said whether the international community would allow Putin to deploy nuclear weapons in Belarus.

Merezhko explained this in an interview with TSN.ua.

"How to correctly qualify Putin's actions (regarding the deployment of nuclear weapons in Belarus. - Ed.): there are several options here. On the one hand, we can qualify it as a violation of the International Convention on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. But a counterargument can be that it is about military bases. The political aspect must be taken into account," says the People's Deputy.

He reminded that currently there are 9 countries of the "nuclear club".

And they are not interested in the proliferation of nuclear weapons.

"They have a monopoly that they want to keep. This nuclear club includes India and China. Despite the fact that China supports Russia in certain issues, but even here it is not interested in an actual violation of the non-proliferation regime, if not legally. nuclear weapons," the politician said.

In his opinion, China and India will do everything possible to ensure that there are no nuclear weapons in Belarus.

"Imagine the situation if Putin's nuclear blackmail works. It will scare countries that do not have nuclear weapons. And they will decide to create their own nuclear arsenal. And then a dangerous chain reaction will begin. It can lead to a higher level of conflictogenicity and the risk of nuclear war. All countries understand this. That's why they will restrain Putin," Merezhko concluded.

It will be recalled that on March 24, dictator Putin announced that Russia would place tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus.

The President's Office named the consequences for the Lukashenka regime if the Russian Federation deploys a "nuke" in Belarus.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyi explained what Putin's statement about deploying tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus means.

According to military expert Oleg Zhdanov, the placement of Russian nuclear weapons in Belarus "is not a story about us, but about NATO."
