(Central News Agency) South Korean President Yoon Seok-yol told U.S. lawmakers today that South Korea, Japan and the United States need to accelerate trilateral cooperation to counter the growing nuclear threat from North Korea.

Yoon also said the world should not "shy away" from promoting North Korea's liberalization.

Reuters reported that today is the fourth day of Yin Xiyue's visit to the United States to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the US-ROK alliance. Yin Xiyue delivered a speech to members of the US Senate and House of Representatives.

During the period, Yin Xiyue also declared that South Korea will take active actions to defend the freedom of the Ukrainian people and support their reconstruction.

Members of Parliament gave him a standing ovation and loud cheers many times.

Yoon also paid tribute to U.S. sacrifices during the Korean War from 1950 to 1953, and to American missionaries' efforts to improve the situation of women in South Korea in the 19th century.

"South Korea will never forget the great American heroes who fought with us to defend freedom," he said.

Yoon told Congress today that the South Korea-U.S. alliance must unite to deter North Korea's "reckless actions," after meeting with U.S. President Joe Biden at the White House yesterday to discuss North Korea amid concerns over North Korea's continued expansion of its stockpile of missiles and bombs.

He also stressed that he was trying to reconcile with Japan after years of strained relations between the two neighbors.

"In addition to close coordination between South Korea and the United States, we must accelerate trilateral security cooperation between South Korea, the United States and Japan to counter the growing nuclear threat from North Korea," he said.

Yoon Suk-yue is the seventh South Korean leader to address the US Congress.
