Temperatures in Spain today are forecast to reach 38 degrees Celsius - "values typical of summer," the National Weather Service said, the Associated Press reported.

In this regard, the Ministry of Health is considering the implementation of a plan with measures for people to cope with the heat, which occurred two weeks earlier than usual.

According to the National Weather Service, the unusually high temperatures for April are due to warm, dry air moving in from North Africa.

Last year was the hottest in Spain since statistics were kept in this direction since 1961. In addition, last year was also the sixth driest in the country despite the influence of the natural phenomenon La Niña, which slightly lowered the average temperatures worldwide, notes BTA.

The Spanish government has asked the European Union for urgent funding to help farmers and ranchers because of the extreme drought in the country's agricultural regions, such as the Guadalquivir valley.

Apart from being the largest exporter of olive oil in the world, Spain is also an important producer of fruit and vegetables for the European market.

Because of the drought, Spanish olive oil prices have already reached record levels.

Currently, 27% of Spain's territory is in an "emergency situation" or "under alarm" due to drought, according to the Ministry of Ecological Transition, and the country's water reserves are at 50% of their capacity.
