The Republic of South Africa (

South Africa

) denied its president's statement to withdraw from the International Criminal Court (ICC), which last month issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin.

UNIAN writes about this.

On Tuesday, April 25, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that the country is going to withdraw from the ISS amid discussions about

Putin's possible visit

to the country.

Subsequently, the presidential administration stated that the head of South Africa had expressed himself incorrectly, and that, in fact, the country does not plan to withdraw from the International Space Station and abandon its obligations under the Rome Statute.

"The President wants to make it clear that South Africa remains a signatory to the Rome Statute and will continue to fight for equal and consistent application of international law," the message reads.

That is, South Africa confirmed that they are ready to arrest Putin if he does visit the country in August 2023 as part of the BRICS summit.

a "criminal case" against the prosecutor and judges
