An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.4 shook the Indonesian island of Sumatra today, the Indonesian Geophysical Service reported, as quoted by Reuters.

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Center had earlier reported a magnitude 6.9 quake.

The epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 20 km, the ESC stated.

A tsunami warning was issued after the earthquake, the Indonesian Meteorological Service added.
