They fled into the unknown, leaving everything behind, and most have nowhere to return.

The first modular town for displaced people was opened in Chernivtsi, where at least 40,000 refugees from the war still live, TSN reports.

More than 3 million euros were allocated for the construction of the town by the countries of the European Union.

There is a kitchen with utensils for common use, and further along the corridor there are showers and toilets.

There is a lounge with a TV, a dining room and a game room.

The rest are living rooms.

3 beds, a table and a wardrobe - these are two walk-through rooms - the new home of the Visit family - a retired couple and their daughter with two grandchildren.

They no longer have their own house.

"Everything is broken, everything.

The projectile is sticking out," says Alla, a migrant from Donetsk region.

The family fled to Chernivtsi by evacuation train from Krasnohorivka in Donetsk region.

"It hasn't stopped since 2014.

Their patience has already worn out and they have realized that they have to leave somewhere," the woman adds.

They still lived in kindergartens in suitcases.

constantly moved.

Like Hanna Pylypenko with two children, who is also from Donetsk region.

For almost a year, she and her son had nothing of their own.

"Three kindergartens were changed, finally we waited for at least a little space of our own.

Of course, better.

Whether it's 7, 8, 12 people to live together, or with your family separately," says Hanna.

60 displaced people were settled in the modular town.

There are blocks for families and single people.

All communications are connected, the next step is the Internet.

There is a recreation area and a children's playground.

"They got along normally.

I can go wash myself, cook for myself.

I can go to the shower, take a bath at last, because there were, of course, showers in the kindergartens, but such small pallets, but God forbid," adds Nadiya, a displaced person.

All 250 beds should be occupied here in a month.

The most vulnerable categories of migrants will receive them, officials say, but not for free.

"A little more than a thousand hryvnias for accommodation.

Communal services are paid for by the city budget," the mayor's office said.

These funds, government officials say, will go to the maintenance of the town.

Here you can survive cold weather and blackouts - there are radiators, generators and solar panels.

And even though it is the outskirts of the city, people will not experience any major inconveniences, the mayor's office is certain.

"There is public transport, a school is nearby, another school is nearby, there is a kindergarten.

That is, the infrastructure here works," the department adds.

Currently, this is the only modular town in Chernivtsi, and the displaced people in the city are only officially registered, more than 40 thousand.

Therefore, the possibility of building housing for another six hundred people is being discussed with international donors.
