Thieves have stolen gold and other valuables worth 12 million pounds ($15 million) from an airport in Canada.

Ladbible.com writes about it

Police have launched an investigation into a theft at Toronto Pearson International Airport.

The resort is often used to ship gold mined in Ontario around the world.

Inspector Steven Duivestein told reporters that the plane had arrived in the early evening of April 17 and its "high-value" cargo had been unloaded and taken to storage.

"What I can say is that there was valuable cargo in the container. It did contain gold, but it contained other items that have monetary value," the law enforcement officer said.

Duivestein added that after some time the container was "taken out illegally" and declared missing.

He said the investigation into the theft was still ongoing, but reassured potential travelers that public safety was not a concern: "We believe this is an isolated incident. So for people traveling who are concerned about arrivals and departures, they should not have no problem. We don't see it as a public safety issue."

Police have not yet confirmed whether the thieves were a professional gang.

Officials are also still refusing to say which airline delivered the cargo, where it came from, or where it was going.

This is not the first time that a Canadian airport has become the scene of a robbery - back in 1952, thieves disappeared with six boxes of gold bound for Montreal.

At the time, the theft was valued at $215,000, which is more than $1.7 million today.

We will remind, in Canada, after 41 years,

an item from a stolen handbag was returned to

a woman .

At first she was skeptical, but then she laughed.
