A gunman opened fire on a vehicle in East Jerusalem on Tuesday, wounding two people, Israel's emergency services said, as quoted by Reuters.

The attack comes amid escalating Israeli-Palestinian violence and high tensions during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which this year coincided with the Jewish holiday of Passover.

Israeli police said the suspected attacker opened fire on a vehicle in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of East Jerusalem, where tensions between Palestinians and Jewish settlers have been high in recent years.

Emergency services said two people were injured and were in a moderate to serious condition, and police said they were searching for the suspected attacker.

In another incident, the Israeli army said a house in a kibbutz in northern Israel was hit by gunfire, but no injuries were reported.
