Former politician Atiq Ahmed, who was convicted of kidnapping, was killed in India.

Along with him, his brother was shot and killed live while they were talking to reporters in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.

After the incident, three men posing as journalists were arrested.

Ahmed and his brother were in custody on charges of murdering a key witness to the 2005 murder of MP Raju Pal.

After Ahmed's murder, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh ordered a judicial inquiry and banned mass gatherings in the state's districts.
