"Court procedures are so shortened and simplified that they are not comparable to what was before," Supreme Court Chairman Valyantsin Sukala said in an interview with "Belarus 1" TV channel, BelTA reports.

"We managed to find the optimal middle ground between the quality and speed of justice.

The long-standing dream and task of all those engaged in judicial reforms is to make the court fast, fair and equal," said Valyantsin Sukala, clarifying that "equal" means "just".

As for justice, the chairman of the Supreme Court emphasized that this is the most important principle of justice, which is also reflected in the legislation.

At the same time, Sukala noted, the court decision that is not only formally legal, but also enforceable, which is perceived by society, can be recognized as fair.

"If it coincides successfully, then it can be considered that such a court decision is fair and the court has fulfilled its task to the maximum," he said.

  • According to human rights activists, as of April 2023, there are at least one and a half thousand political prisoners in Belarusian prisons, in addition, a huge number of "political" people are behind bars on administrative charges.

Eyewitnesses note that the "political" trials have turned into a conveyor belt, the judges do not take into account either the testimonies of the witnesses or the material evidence that acquits the defendants.

Sometimes a few minutes are allocated for consideration of "political" cases.
