The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approved the law on the termination of the agreement with Belarus on cooperation in the field of technical protection of information, signed in January 2003 in Minsk.

Until September 2014, the operators of the implementation of this agreement were the Security Service of Ukraine and the State Center for Security of Information about the President of Belarus, and after the signing of the protocol, the State Service of Special Communications of Ukraine and the Operative-Analytical Center under Alexander Lukashenko became the authorized bodies.

"Taking into account the realities of bilateral relations and Belarus's support for Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine, the adoption of the law will allow the protection of Ukraine's national interests in the sphere of technical protection of information and will be another step for further international isolation of Belarus," the justification for Ukraine's withdrawal from this treaty noted.

The agreement regulated activities aimed at preventing the leakage of information and unauthorized access to it, violation of its integrity or blocking.

Under this agreement, each party has guaranteed that it will not transfer the restricted information to other states, entities or individuals without the written consent of the other party.

This contract was signed for five years, and its term was extended automatically.

In 2023, another five-year period of validity of the document ended.

After the signing of this law by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine will inform the Belarusian side about withdrawing from the agreement.

Its action will be terminated no later than six months after this notification from the Ukrainian side.

Since the beginning of Russia's military invasion of Ukraine, which was supported by the leadership of Belarus, Ukraine has withdrawn, denounced or suspended more than 20 agreements, agreements, memoranda and protocols signed with the government of Belarus since 1991.
