Wayanad:

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi reached his parliamentary constituency Kerala for the first time after losing the membership of Parliament in a criminal defamation case regarding 'Modi surname'.

In Wayanad, Rahul Gandhi did a roadshow with his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

During this, party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also addressed the public meeting.

Now Rahul Gandhi is addressing the public meeting.

Rahul Gandhi contested from the Wayanad seat of Kerala in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Here he won by 4.31 lakh votes.

However, he was defeated by BJP leader Smriti Irani from Amethi seat in Uttar Pradesh.

Rahul Gandhi reached the Parliament after winning the election from Wayanad seat, but his membership of Parliament was canceled on March 24 after Rahul was sentenced to two years by the court.


It was on March 23


that the court of Surat had sentenced Rahul Gandhi to two years in the defamation case on March 23.

However, he got bail 27 minutes after the sentence was announced.

In 2019, Rahul had given a statement regarding the Modi surname in the assembly of Karnataka.

He had said- 'Why is the surname of all thieves Modi?

After this, Gujarat's BJP MLA Purnesh Modi filed a defamation case against Rahul.

The very next day after the announcement of the sentence, the Lok Sabha secretariat issued a notification canceling Rahul Gandhi's membership. 

Why membership cancelled?


The Supreme Court had said in a 2013 judgment that if any MP or MLA was found guilty in a lower court, he would be disqualified for membership of Parliament or Legislative Assembly.

Under this rule, Rahul's parliament membership has been cancelled.
