In Poland, a 73-year-old woman took out loans and sold her own apartment to help a stranger from social networks.

In total, she transferred 500,000 zlotys (more than 4,200,000 hryvnias) to the swindler who promised to marry her.

The Polish publication Onet writes about it

A 73-year-old Polish woman met a man who called himself an American.

The story of the scam, which affected a pensioner from the Parczew District of the Lublin Voivodeship, began a year and a half ago.

It was then that the 73-year-old woman began to correspond in social networks with a man who introduced himself to her as the American Jeff Jefferson.

The fraudster wrote to her that he was a widower raising two children by himself.

He claimed to be working on an oil rig in Norway.

He tried to make a 73-year-old woman fall in love with him: he addressed her kindly and even promised to marry her.

At some point, the "American" began to demand money from the woman.

"After some time, during correspondence, he asked a 73-year-old woman for financial help, because he was in a difficult situation and needed money to get out of custody. In addition, he claimed that he had sick children who needed financial support for treatment. The victim, believing her lover's promises, transferred the first money to him," senior sergeant Evelina Semenyuk from the Parchev police said.

The pensioner took out several loans from different banks for a total amount of more than 125 thousand zlotys.

She also gave the scammer all her savings and at one point even sold her apartment.

In total, she gave her "beloved" 500,000 zlotys.

The woman turned to the police only a year and a half later, because the "American" promised to return the money to her, but he never did.

We will remind you that a resident of Ternopil Oblast in love gave 38,000 hryvnias to a "foreigner".
