They left the 61-year-old man who looked after the five dogs that tore a woman apart in Dolna Oryahovitsa permanently in custody.

The decision is of the District Court - Veliko Tarnovo.

The incident happened on the morning of March 30.

The 40-year-old woman was returning home from duty at the hospital in Gorna Oryahovitsa, where she worked as an orderly.

On her way home, however, she was attacked and fatally torn apart by the dogs.

The defendant, Ivalin Stratiev, was charged with not taking sufficient care of the animals that killed the woman.

The law provides for up to 5 years in prison and a BGN 10,000 fine for such a crime.

The most severe measure of remand was imposed on the man at the request of the District Prosecutor's Office in the old capital.

So he remains in custody on the grounds that he may abscond or commit another crime.

The owner of the animals is abroad and has verbally assigned the 61-year-old Stratiev to take care of them.

The five dogs were euthanized for the purposes of the investigation, which is ongoing.
