[Reporter Huang Ziyang/New Taipei Report] Ding Wangui, head of De'an District, Xindian District, New Taipei City, pointed out that yesterday (4th) there were many fish turning white in Wuchong River. He went to the scene to check and found a large number of dead fish.

The Environmental Protection Agency responded that yesterday and today, personnel were sent to check the water. After a quick screening of the water, it was confirmed that there were no other acute toxic reactions such as heavy metals.

Ding Wangui said that he received reports from the public at noon yesterday that there was a fish struggling and dying in Wuchongxi. He checked the scene and found that the situation was true. The water area about 1.5 kilometers long in the mile had similar conditions, but there was no peculiar smell. He notified the same day Environmental Protection Agency to deal with.

Ding Wangui pointed out that there were no chemical substances exceeding the standard in the on-site inspection by the Environmental Protection Bureau, and it was speculated that the dissolved oxygen level was too low to cause the dead fish. He searched along the road and found that there were no dead fish in other places upstream, only the area around Lane 207, Section 3, Ankang Road downstream. , It is speculated that someone there discharged pollutants in the early morning of the 3rd, because the water flowed, the pollutants had been washed away.

Ding Wangui said that the dead fish included carp, tilapia, and eel. He estimated that there may be about 10,000 dead fish. Because the dead fish had already floated, the smell of dead fish began to appear on the scene. The district government needs to wait until tomorrow (6th) Only in the morning can manpower be dispatched to clean up. Currently, the seine is temporarily fixed to prevent the fish carcasses from drifting to other places.

In response to this, the Environmental Protection Bureau responded that they sent personnel to the scene yesterday and visually inspected more than a hundred dead fish along the Wuchongxi River. The rapid screening of water collection confirmed that there were no other acute toxic reactions such as heavy metals, and the dissolved oxygen in the water was 0.8, which was lower than the survivable state of fish.

Today, personnel were sent to follow up and inspect. The pH value of the water samples collected on site was 7.3, the water temperature was 22.2 degrees, and the dissolved oxygen content was 1.26.

The Environmental Protection Agency believes that the temperature is rising day by day, and the water level of Wuchongxi River continues to drop. The environmental conditions are unfavorable for dissolved oxygen in the water. It cannot be ruled out that dissolved oxygen cannot support the survival of fish, which leads to dead fish. Environmental inspectors will continue to conduct inspections on suspicious pollution sources along the river basin. If it is found that the river has been polluted without proper treatment, it will be dealt with strictly according to the law.

The Environmental Protection Agency stated that the fish carcasses could not be retrieved due to the terrain; Ding Wangui said that he would continue to ask the Environmental Protection Agency to collect samples of the fish carcasses for testing.
