The UN Human Rights Council has voted by a majority to renew the mandate of the investigative body investigating war crimes committed since the beginning of Russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine.

According to information reported by APA with reference to the Western press, 28 countries voted in favor of extending the mandate of the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Ukraine for another year.

17 countries abstained from voting, and two countries, including China, voted against.

Ukraine's ambassador to the UN in Geneva, Yevgenia Filipenko, said before the vote in the Council: "The scale and brutality of Russia's brutality in Ukraine cannot be understood by a human being."

We strongly believe that the Commission's continued work to further investigate, document and report human rights violations and international crimes against humanity in Ukraine can save more innocent lives and contribute to accountability and justice."

It should be noted that the UN Human Rights Council does not have legally binding powers, but it can send evidence of crimes to national and international courts.
