According to the Port Authority of New York, because of the tower's height, there is always a high chance that it will be struck by lightning, but it was built with a state-of-the-art protection system that not only keeps the building safe, but the surrounding area as well.
The building blocks the electrical current and directs it directly into the foundation, preventing electricity from passing inside.
It is worth noting that lightning often strikes the World Trade Center.
According to Accuweather, this building was hit 189 times between 2015 and 2020.
This makes it the second-most affected in the US after the Willis Tower in Chicago, which was struck by lightning 250 times during the same period.
It will be recalled that during a storm in New York,
