In the US city of Nashville, Tennessee state, more than a thousand protesters gathered this Thursday in front of the state Capitol building to demand an end to gun violence.

The protest followed Monday's shooting at the Nashville Covenant school, where a person armed with two rifles and a pistol killed three adults and three nine-year-old schoolchildren.

These were the words expressed by Chloe Spangler, a 16-year-old high school student from Tennessee.

Chloe Spangler

: “I've grown up my whole life afraid of getting shot at school.

I really want to fight for gun control, because I'm tired of having my life put second to guns.

And I want students to have the opportunity to raise their voices, because they are the ones affected by this problem."

This comes as the Republican-controlled Tennessee state legislature is considering legislation to further loosen firearms regulations.

One of these pieces of legislation would allow people as young as 18 years of age to carry rifles and shotguns in public spaces without the need for a permit.

Other legislation would allow education workers to carry firearms concealed on school property with a permit.
