At least 12 people, including children and women, were killed and several others injured in a stampede at a Ramadan food distribution center in Pakistan's port city of Karachi.

He told that the incident of stampede happened when some people unknowingly stepped on the electric wire while distributing food, after which people started pushing each other and running and during this some people fell into the nearby drain. 

Officials said 12 people, including women and children, were killed in the stampede and several others were injured.

Senior Superintendent of Police Amirullah told news agency PTI, "Initially, two people died after coming in contact with the electric wire, which created an atmosphere of chaos and stampede."

"Due to the crowd, the wall of the drain collapsed and two children and two women fell into it," he said. The death toll in the stampede at food distribution centers in Pakistan after the Karachi incident has risen to at least 22. Has been.

Pakistan's Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, who is going through a serious economic crisis, started the scheme of distribution of free food grains last week.
